The head is also stamped "Army & Navy Hold Fast, London" and has the Gibson's "Star". The hosel and shaft are oval and the original sheep skin grip is a bit tattered at the bottom. A nice example of this highly collectible Putter. G-7 $250

 7 113 MURRIE & SONS: "Murrie & Sons, Methven" on back of a concentric back weighted off set blade putter circa 1910-1915 with a hyphen scored face. Replaced grip over the original shaft. All stampings are deep and bold. G-6 $80.00

 8 113 NICHOLSON, D, PITTENWEEM, SCOTLAND: "D Nicholson, Maker, Pittenweem" and "Gold Medal, Edinburgh, Exhibition, 1890" in ovals on back of a circa 1900 smooth face Putter. Shaft and sheep skin grip look original. Nicholson died in 1900 making his clubs scarce and desirable. G-7 $135

 9 113 NICOLL, GEORGE, LEVEN, SCOTLAND: "Willie Park's Original Bent Neck Putter" on a 1920's remake of the famous Park Patented Putter. The smooth face blade is long and the hosel is severely off set. G-8 $190

10 113 PARK, WILLIE, MUSSELBURGH, SCOTLAND: "W Park's Special Patent" nearly emoried away on his Bent Neck smooth face putter patented in 1892. See "Ellis", P 171. Shaft is clearly stamped "Wm Park" below a period type replacement grip. G-5. $175.

15 113 STANDARD GOLF CO, SUNDERLAND, ENGLAND: A nice "R N B" model Mills aluminum mallet putter with the "T" sight bar on the head. Excellent sole markings. Sound hosel and looks all original. G-7+ $135.

 23 113 SPALDING, USA: "The Spalding" on head and shaft of a circa 1898-1900 severely bent neck Park style off set blade Putter. Grip is a period type replacement. Shaft is a little short as made. Many players used a wide stance while bending over much more than we modern players and requested shorter shafts. G-6 $135

 32 113 ANDERSON, JAMES, ANSTRUTHER, SCOTLAND: Anderson's tiny "Circle" mark and "J Preston, Leamington" on a circa 1895 smooth face Cleek. The original shaft stamped in large letters "J Preston, Leamington" has three four inch segments of old whipping spaced two inches apart that were undoubtedly for strengthening the shaft. Grip is a replacement. G-5 $95

This one is rather large. The original shaft is stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St Andrews" below the nice replacement grip. G-6 $165

The exotic Greenheart shaft is also stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St Andrews". This scarcity exhibits very little play. Grip is a period type replacement. G-8 $250

 61 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: "Star" mark on head and shaft of a very nice circa 1925 #3 iron with a hyphen scored face. All original and underrated. G-7+ $75.00

 62 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: A circa 1920's bordered hyphen face, flanged back "Maxwell Mid-iron" with 12 wrap around "Maxwell" holes drilled into the hosel. Appears all original. G-6 $90.00

 63 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: A Gibson "Mid-iron" with his scarce "Powder Horn" mark at toe. Gibson used this mark after 1925, but very few have been encountered during my 10 years of cataloguing. G-7 $90.00

 64 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: Circa 1900 with compact head smooth face made by Wm. Gibson for Army & Navy Cooperative Stores, London. All original with excellent back stamps. G-7 $95.

 65 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: "Wm Gibson & Co., Ltd, Kinghorn, Scotland" stamped on the back of an outstanding circa 1910-15 dot punched face "Deep Face Mashie". G-8 $110.00

 66 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: A Maxwell hosel Niblick with a flanged back. 12 wrap around holes are drilled in the hosel to lessen hosel weight and the flange was added to enhance the head weight and feel. Even though the head is a bit rusty, with a good shaft, this would be a great playable sand iron. G-5+ $135.

 67 113 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: An unusual "Maxwell" hosel "Mashie" with a flanged back. There are 22 holes drilled in the hosel; two vertical rows of six and two of five. Most Maxwell hosels have ten wrap around holes. The holes were drilled to remove hosel weight. This made the head feel heavier thus giving more "Feel" to the shot. Shaft and grip appear original. G-6+ $175.00

This club is easy to date as Smith was only at Hastings from 1897-1898. A nice pre-turn of the century collectible iron. G-7+ $150

The Hickory shaft is very thin and has an interesting "spindle" shape where it enters the hosel. Shaft has either been shortened or originally made for a lady. Quite scarce and not listed in Georgiady's 1998 Value Guide. G-7 $175

105 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1880-1890 Cleek made in the "Carrick" style. All markings emoried away by caddies. The face has an emoried sweet spot. Period shaft with a period grip. G-5 $175

107 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1880-1890 smooth face General Purpose Iron with "Salter" in small block letters on the back. This long faced iron has a squared off top of blade and hosel join indicating a pre-1895 forging. The period replaced shaft is stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St Andrews" below a replacement period type grip. A handsome club. G-7 $375

108 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1870-1880 slightly dished face, hooked face Lofting Iron in the John Gray style. The early replacement shaft is stamped "E M C McDoland" below a period type replacement grip. A nice early iron. G-6 $475.00

109 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1875-1885 smooth, slightly hooked face General Purpose Iron with a nearly five inch long hosel and a squared off top of blade and hosel join. The replacement grip is stamped "Aitken" below an old leather grip. This looks like an early Park forging. G-6 $490

110 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A mid to late 19th Century General Purpose Iron with a slightly dished and hooked smooth face. The nearly five inch long hosel with a squared of top of blade and hosel join has deep heavy saw tooth nicking indicative of Pre-1875 irons. The replacement shaft is stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St. Andrews" below a period type grip. G-6 $750

111 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1850-1870 long, slightly hooked and dish faced General Purpose Iron without stampings. The nearly five inch long hosel has a squared off top of blade and hosel join and a nearly 3 1/2 inches long forging seam in the hosel. When I visited Prestwick some years ago, I was told John Gray rejected clubs with imperfections and only quality heads were worthy of his stamp. He sold the unstamped rejects or simply reforged the heads. This club is in the Gray style. Grip and shaft look original. G-7 $950

112 113 UNKNOWN MAKER: An outstanding circa Pre-1875 smooth face Cleek without back markings. The width of the blade in nearly the same at heel and toe giving this scarcity a "rectangular" appearance. The saw tooth nicked hosel is nearly five inches in length. I handled a "Carrick" stamped Cleek about four years ago that was very similar to this one. (See photo P-79 in my book) Their Cleeks had a flowing hosel to sole curve unlike any other pre-1880 makers. The shaft has an old repair and the grip is an old weathered sheep skin. G-7+ $950

113 113 VALENTINE, W, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: A circa 1890's Cleek with "W Valentine, Montrose" deeply struck on the back. This iron has a "Squared Off" top of blade and hosel join indicative of pre-1895 forging. Early replacement shaft stamped "Winton, Montrose". Head and stampings are G-8+, overall G-6. $290.

114 113 VARDON, HARRY, TOTTERIDGE: "Harry Vardon Cleek" on a circa 1915 line face scarcity. "H Vardon" is stamped on the shaft below an old tattered sheep skin grip. G-6 $95
