ADD 27 ANDERSON OF ANSTRUTHER, SCOTLAND: An outstanding "Rustless Mashie" with "Andersons Imperial" below a large "Crown" mark. The heel and toe are "beveled" to give the iron a mussel back appearance. Appears to be all original. A great looking iron for display. Head & shaft are outstanding, the grip a bit rough. The steel socket "Seam" is clearly visible on the hosel. "Mashie" stamped into the original shaft below the replacement period type sheep skin grip. Clubs just like this one were bringing £200. at the British auctions. G-7 $65 ADD 38 GIBSON, WILLIAM, KINGHORN, SCOTLAND: "R Button, Burntisland" on the back of a circa 1905 smooth faced "diamond" back cleek with the "Star" mark. All original with russet grip. ANDREWS: A circa 1888-1894 General Purpose Iron with "J Thomson, Felixstowe" surrounding a wide "H" (looks like a bar bell) which is Morris' early iron cleek mark. Original looking shaft with a replacement period type grip. Hosel pin has been removed and replaced in order to tighten a loose head. Overall a nice early Morris iron. G-8 $95 ADD 42 PATRICK, ALEX, LEVEN, FIFE: A circa 1910-1915 oval head "Mashie-niblick" with "A Patrick, Leven" on the back. The face has "criss-cross" scoring. Replacement grip on the original shaft. G-6 $75 ADD 43 RAMSBOTTOM, ROBERT, MANCHESTER: A circa 1895 ladies smooth face Cleek stamped "Ramsbottom, Manchester". Shaft and grip have been replaced. Very scarce and seldom offered maker. G-5 $250. ADD 44 RITCHIE, W L, LONDON, ENGLAND: "W L Ritchie, Own Model" and his "Scottish Bluebell" mark on a circa 1920-25 Mashie Niblick. Shaft is original with a replacement wrapped leather grip. Very scarce, as this is the first "Stewart-Vardon (Ganton)" stamped club I've handled. All original with the grip a bit tattered at the end. This massive mark is rarely found full; this one is struck up at the perimeters and not in the centers. The original shaft was shortened. "Anderson Anstruther" small "Circular" mark is at the toe. Appears all original. G-7 $75 IGB 5 ANDERSON, D & W, ST. ANDREWS: A very scarce circa 1888-1893 smooth face Cleek stamped "D & W Anderson, St. Andrews" in tiny lettering inside an oval. Shaft is an old replacement. Georgiady lists the brothers in "The Compendium" but does not have an example of their forging in his "1998 Value Guide". This is the first D & W Anderson iron I've handled. The original shaft stamped in large letters "J Preston, Leamington" has three four inch segments of old whipping spaced two inches apart that were undoubtedly for strengthening the shaft. The hosel is thick and oval shaped indicating a pre-1895 forging. "Willie Weston, Cromer" is stamped on the original shaft and on the head above the "Pipe" mark. The grip is a replacement over old listing. A significant early Stewart club as this is one of the few I've seen or handled with a squared of top off blade and hosel join. The Hickory shaft is very thin and has an interesting "spindle" shape where it enters the hosel. Shaft has either been shortened or originally made for a lady. Quite scarce and not listed in Georgiady's 1998 Value Guide. G-7 $175 IGB 208 UNKNOWN MAKER: A smooth face Cleek with a long shallow blade that looks pre-1870, but was most likely made by Nicholson of Pittenweem or Willie Park as they made the old style Cleeks into the early 1890's. No visible stampings can be found on the back. The shaft and grip are originals. G-7 $225 IGB 209 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1880-1890 smooth, slightly dished and hooked face Lofting Iron without back markings. The period replacement shaft is boldly stamped "G Forrester & Sons" below a nice grip. G-7 $275 IGB 210 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1880-1890 smooth face General Purpose Iron with "Salter" in small block letters on the back. This long faced iron has a squared off top of blade and hosel join indicating a pre-1895 forging. The period replaced shaft is stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St Andrews" below a replacement period type grip. A handsome club. G-7 $375 IGB 211 UNKNOWN MAKER: A slightly HOOKED face, circa 1860-1875 General Purpose Iron with the top of blade and hosel join "Squared" indicating an early hand forging. This iron is in the style of John Gray. There is almost no hosel "nicking" remaining. Irons made pre-1875 had very long nicking that was crimped into the shaft. During reshafting, the "nicking" was cut off to make the removal of the shaft easier. G-6 $475.00 IGB 212 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1870-1880 slightly dished face, hooked face Lofting Iron in the John Gray style. The early replacement shaft is stamped "E M C McDoland" below a period type replacement grip. A nice early iron. G-6 $475.00 IGB 213 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1875-1885 smooth, slightly hooked face General Purpose Iron with a nearly five inch long hosel and a squared off top of blade and hosel join. The replacement grip is stamped "Aitken" below an old leather grip. This looks like an early Park forging. G-6 $490 IGB 214 UNKNOWN MAKER: A RARE circa 1870-1880 long blade Cleek. The hosel is 4 1/2 inches long and has a "Squared Off" top of blade and hosel join indicative of pre-1890 forging. No maker's marks are visible on the back. Shaft and grip are replacements. G-5 $650.00 IGB 215 UNKNOWN MAKER: A mid to late 19th Century General Purpose Iron with a slightly dished and hooked smooth face. The nearly five inch long hosel with a squared of top of blade and hosel join has deep heavy saw tooth nicking indicative of Pre-1875 irons. The replacement shaft is stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St. Andrews" below a period type grip. G-6 $750 IGB 216 UNKNOWN MAKER: A circa 1850-1870 long, slightly hooked and dish faced General Purpose Iron without stampings. The nearly five inch long hosel has a squared off top of blade and hosel join and a nearly 3 1/2 inches long forging seam in the hosel. When I visited Prestwick some years ago, I was told John Gray rejected clubs with imperfections and only quality heads were worthy of his stamp. He sold the unstamped rejects or simply reforged the heads. This club is in the Gray style. Grip and shaft look original. G-7 $950 IGB 217 UNKNOWN MAKER: An outstanding circa Pre-1875 smooth face Cleek without back markings. The width of the blade in nearly the same at heel and toe giving this scarcity a "rectangular" appearance. The saw tooth nicked hosel is nearly five inches in length. I handled a "Carrick" stamped Cleek about four years ago that was very similar to this one. (See photo P-79 in my book) Their Cleeks had a flowing hosel to sole curve unlike any other pre-1880 makers. The shaft has an old repair and the grip is an old weathered sheep skin. G-7+ $950 IGB 218 UNKNOWN MAKER: A nice circa 1880-1885 RUT Iron with no stampings on the small head. Shaft and grip are nice inperiod replacements. G-6+ $1500 IGB 219 UNKNOWN MAKER: Blacksmith made General Purpose Iron circa 1840-1860. Forging seams are evident near the heel and the hosel has deep jagged crimped down nicking. Shaft and grip are pre-1900 replacements. A significant early left handed iron. A great addition to any collection. G-6 $1950 IGB 220 VARDON, HARRY, GANTON: Circa 1896-1903 smooth face compact head Cleek made by Tom Stewart and having his "Pipe" mark below "H Vardon, Ganton" in a small, but boldly stamped oval mark. Very scarce, as this is the first "Stewart-Vardon (Ganton)" stamped club I've handled. All original with the grip a bit tattered at the end. G-7+ $225 IGB 221 VARDON, HARRY, TOTTERIDGE: "Harry Vardon Cleek" on a circa 1915 line face scarcity. "H Vardon" is stamped on the shaft below an old tattered sheep skin grip. G-6 $95 IGB 222 VICKER'S LTD., SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND: Circa 1915-20 hyphen face "Mashie No 6 B" with the "Double K" maker's mark at the toe. Hosel nicking is more than 1/4 inch long! Appears all original. G-7 $75.00 IGB 223 VICKERS, SHEFFIELD, ENGLAND: Circa 1915-20 hyphen face "Mashie No. 23" with the "Double K" maker's mark at the toe. This iron has a very wide sole and a flanged back. Shaft is a replacement. G-5+ $65.00 IGB 224 WHITE, JACK, SUNNINGDALE, ENGLAND: "Sunningdale" in large block letters on a dash faced "Mashie". All original. G-8 $70.00 IGB 225 WHITE, ROBERT, ST ANDREWS: A circa 1885-1890 smooth face, compact deep face Iron with a rarely seen nearly full "R White, Maker, St Andrews" stamp. Top of blade and hosel join are "squared off" indicating a pre-1895 forging. Shaft is an early replacement. The grip is a buff leather. Overall G-6 $350.00 IGB 226 WHITE, ROBERT, ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND: A circa 1880-1885 smooth face Cleek made by Robert White, with only a few letters visible. The top of blade and hosel join are squared off indicative of early hand forgings. Old shaft and grip are replacements. The head has a classic early cleek shape. G-4 $150 IGB 227 WHITE, ROBERT, ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND: A circa 1880's Cleek with a partial "R White, St Andrews" readable. Old shaft and circa 1900 sheep skin grip are replacements. G-4 $190.00 IGB 228 WHITE, ROBERT, ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND: A circa 1880-85 Cleek with "R White Maker" in large block letters on the back. The hosel has forging seam cracks from the "pin" to the shaft and at the base of the hosel near the head. The shaft and grip are period type replacements. Very scarce early maker. G-5 $390.00 IGB 229 WINTON, JAMES, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: "J Winton, Montrose" on a circa 1895-1900 smooth face lofter. James Winton began the "Winton" club making firm about 1890. Replaced grip on original listings. Scarce. G-5 $90.00 IGB 230 WINTON, W & CO, LT'D, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: Circa 1920-25 #12 niblick with "Wellington College" and the "Diamond" mark at toe. G-6 $65.00 IGB 231 WINTON, W & CO, LT'D, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: An interesting circa 1925-30 "Mashie" with "dots" between two lines for the border on either side of very tightly spaced hyphen scoring. A nice item for display. G-8 $65 IGB 232 WINTON, W & CO, LT'D, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: A SUPERB all original "A M Mashie" with the "Diamond" mark at the toe. The back is full of stampings, too numerous to list. a nice club for display. G-8+ $75 IGB 233 WINTON, W & CO, LT'D, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: Winton's "Diamond" mark on a circa 1910 smooth face Niblick stamped "Ted Ray's Own Niblick" and having a "Diamond Back" weighting design. The pointed toe head is shaped similar to the "Cannon" patent. Shaft and grip are period replacements. G-6 $175.00 IGB 234 WINTON, W & CO., LT'D, MONTROSE, SCOTLAND: An outstanding "A M Mashie" with a deep faced, large head and dot punched face. This club is pictured p-121 in "The Encyclopedia". About as nice as they come.
