Splice whipping is a well done replacement with the original shaft stamped "R Forgan & Sons, St. Andrews" below a very nice sheep skin grip. LOT #... 42.... DUNN BROTHERS, BOURNEMOUTH: A RARE ONE-PIECE Driver stamped "Dunn's Patent" in block lettering on the head. Much more significant than Spalding, MacGregor or BGI one-piece woods as this was the earliest example and made where the concept was conceived, Bournmouth, England. Jeff Ellis writes, TCA P-146-148: "...Dunn's Patent driver on P-146 is one of the clubs patented by John D Dunn and marketed by him and his father...Few one-piece woods made by Dunn and marked with his name remain today". This example is not the golden color as photoed; it does, however, have the full leather face which is a bit weathered. The grip is a replacement. G-6+ $1500-2750
LOT #... 43.... FORGAN, ROBERT, ST ANDREWS, SCOTLAND: A circa 1895 Bulger Brassie with "R Forgan" boldly above the POW "Plume" stamp. A screw was put in the neck to successfully stop the advancement of the crack. $250-400
LOT #... 44.... VARDON, HARRY, GANTON: A circa late 1890's tiny head, deep faced Spoon or Baffy with "H Vardon" in large block letters on the Beech head. There is a horn slip between the bottom of the face and the brass rounded sole plate. This club has the appearance of a Bull-dog"trouble wood. LOT #... 47.... BRAMBLE PATTERN: "Standard, Pat. Feb 3, 03" on both poles of a wound center ball most likely made by Worthington. Two-thirds original paint faded to tan with a few very minor iron marks. G-5+ $90-150
LOT #... 48.... BRAMBLE PATTERN: "Spalding Bramble" at both poles in a large circular stamp on the Gutta Percha cover. 98% original paint that has faded to cream. Several minor marks keep this from the superb class. A really nice, early Spalding ball. G-8 $275-450
LOT #... 49.... BRAMBLE PATTERN: "The Amazon" and "Thornton & Co., Ltd" on the poles of a bramble cover with larger brambles than a "Caymen" or Silvertown's c-1930 bramble.
